NGC2936

Description

This image shows the two galaxies interacting. NGC 2936, once a standard spiral galaxy, and NGC 2937, a smaller elliptical, bear a striking resemblance to a penguin guarding its egg. Also know as ARP142, this image is a combination of visible and infrared light, created from data gathered by the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope Wide Field Planetary Camera 3 (WFC3).⁣ ⁣ This image was created from 3 subframes of different wavelengths from the Hubble WFC3 Camera taken in June 2012. These raw data files were downloaded from the Hubble Archive and processed using PixInsight. The FITS data was mapped to the 3 visual channels (F657 to Red, F606 to Green and F475 to Blue) to maximise the detail inside this amazing object
